If you plan to travel to Italy, you will need a Schengen visa, as Italy is part of the Schengen area. The specific type of visa required depends on the purpose of your visit. For instance, a Schengen tourist visa permits stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period in Italy or any other Schengen member country.

Documents Required To Get A Visa For Italy

• Passport (must be valid for at least 3 months after the end of the planned stay and with at least 2 blank pages)
• One passport sized photography not older than 6 months that complies with ICAO specifications (3.5cm x 4.5cm)
• Visa application form completed
• Confirmed reservation of the round-trip airline tickets
• Detailed itinerary in English or Italian
• Proof of accommodation (for example hotel reservations for the entire duration of stay in the Schengen countries)
• If the applicant is employed, an employment proof (work certificate, monthly salary, position in the company etc) must be submitted.
  If the applicant is a business owner, the business registration certificate issued by the Department of Business Development / Ministry of Commerce is necessary.
• If the applicant is a student, an original letter in English from the school is required
• If the applicant has a sponsor, provide a signed sponsorship letter with a copy of the sponsor’s ID, proof of family relationship (e.g. birth certificate, house registration, or marriage certificate with English translation), the sponsor’s bank statement, and proof of employment
• If the applicant changed name, then the original and copy of the certificate must be submitted (in English)
• For non-Thai nationals, re-entry stamps from immigrations and the original and copy of work permit are necessary
• Submit two copies of your passport and one copy of any Schengen, UK, USA, or Canada visas issued in the last 5 years (include a copy of the old passport if visas are in it).
• Travel and health insurance (minimum coverage of Euro 30,000) that must be valid for the whole Schengen area
• Cover letter (one page maximum) signed, in English or Italian stating the purpose of travel and any relevant information to facilitate the examination of the visa application
• For minors: Provide a birth certificate (with English translation) and, if not traveling with both parents, a legalized consent letter from the non-traveling parent(s) or proof of sole custody or death certificate, all with English translations.

Processing Time

The usual processing time is between 4 days and 15 days for tourism purposes (visiting family, tourist visits etc). However, it can happen that the processing time can take up to 45 days, for example during high season.

Visa Fees

The Italy visa is free for children under 6 years old, costs €45 (around THB 1800) for children up to 11 years old and costs €90 (around THB 3,400 to THB 3,600) for adults. The fee is fixed in Euro but is payable in Thai baht only. Therefore the application fee may vary depending on the current exchange rate between the two currencies. The visa fee shall be waived if the applicant belongs to a specific category. For example, the spouse of a Italian citizen will have their visa fee waived.
