DTV Visa (Destination Thailand Visa)

The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) was introduced in 2024 by the Thai government to attract long-term visitors engaged in remote work, wellness, and cultural activities. It aims to support Thailand’s soft power industries while boosting tourism and the digital economy.

This new visa aims to attract high-quality tourists, remote workers (Digital Nomads), and individuals interested in participating in cultural activities in Thailand such as Muay Thai, traditional Thai massage, Thai cooking, and other activities related to Thai soft power.

Applicants must be at least 20 years old and provide proof of a bank deposit of no less than 500,000 THB maintained over the past 3 to 6 months prior to the visa application. The visa is valid for 5 years and allows multiple entries. Each stay in Thailand can last up to 180 days and can be extended once for another 180 days per entry.

Spouses and children under 20 years old of the main visa holder are eligible to apply as dependents. However, the application must be submitted from outside Thailand via the official e-Visa system. Visa holders are not permitted to work for or receive income from Thai companies. Long-term residents may be subject to Thai tax regulations if their income meets the criteria for taxation in Thailand. This visa is ideal for individuals who wish to live in Thailand long term while working remotely for overseas companies or clients, without the need for a Thai work permit.

Who Is Eligible to Apply for the DTV Visa?

The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) is designed for foreigners who wish to stay in Thailand for up to one year and engage in specific permitted activities under this visa type. If your purpose of stay matches any of the conditions listed below, you may be eligible to apply for the DTV Visa :

1. Workcation (Remote Work / Digital Nomad)

The DTV visa is the perfect solution for digital nomads, freelancers, and remote workers who want to live in Thailand while working for foreign companies or clients. With the flexibility of long stays, no local work permit requirement, it offers a unique opportunity to enjoy the Thai lifestyle while continuing your professional activities abroad.

Required Documents

  • Passport Biodata Page or Travel Document (Must be valid within 6 months from travel date)
  • Official photo of the applicant, taken within the past six months
  • Document indicating current location (driving license, bank statement, proof of stay or passport stamp)
  • Employment contract or employment certificate in their country or professional portfolio showcasing digital nomad, remote worker, foreign talent or freelancer status

2. Cultural Activities and Thai Soft Power

The DTV visa is also ideal for those coming to Thailand to join cultural, educational, or wellness-related programs such as Muay Thai training, Thai cooking classes, traditional massage courses, or even long-term medical treatments. It supports individuals who wish to experience Thailand’s rich soft power industries while enjoying extended stays with ease and flexibility.
